Are educational courses a viable alternative to prosecution for some motoring offences?
Is it right that drivers are offered courses instead of prosecution for certain motoring offences? That's the topic of discussion today as we continue to navigate towards Project EDWARD's week of action on the 17th October.
Chief Constable Jo Shiner, roads policing lead for the national police chiefs council and Ruth Purdie OBE, chief executive of UKROEd are our guest on this episode.

If your tyres don't stop you, what will?
We are fast approaching the beginning of the 2022 Tyre Safety Month, in October, so who better to join us than Jason Simms the comms lead for TyreSafe – and Stuart Lovatt its new Chair. Jason and Stuart explain the importance of tyre maintenance and the need for greater public awareness.
We're also delighted to be able to share a presentation by professor, Nick Reed. Nick has spent more than fifteen years at the sharp end of transportation research, and he talks to us about what do we seek from technology and mobility.

Driving for Better Business
This week we shine the spotlight on the 'Driving for Better Business' podcast as we take a look at fatigue in driving. Host Simon Turner talks with Dr Paul Jackson, a Chartered Psychologist specialising in human performance who has assisted safety-critical organisations to implement fatigue risk management systems for more than 20 years.
In particular they look at a landmark legal case in which the Office of Rail and Road successfully prosecuted an employer for health and safety breaches, as a result of two of its employees being killed in a road traffic collision where driver fatigue was identified as the primary cause.
You can check out Driving for Better business, and the podcast, here.

30 years of pushing for more driver education
This week we look back over the last 30 years at the early days of what were once called driver diversion schemes – the alternatives to prosecution pioneered by certain police forces and now available across England and Wales through UKROEd and the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme.
We talked with road safety pioneers: Ian Aspinall, Karen Stringer and Neil Cunliffe and invited them to reflect on the opportunities and challenges they faced as they lay the foundations for what is now a key part of our justice system…

But we’ll also be taking a detailed look at the dashcam that may be fixed to your car windscreen – James Mason from Nextbase will reveal some fascinating insider information about the capability of today’s dashcams and the outcomes that can be achieved in the right hands.
We also take a look at the data that will be tracked during Project EDWARD's week of action and the role EV's will play.
